New appointments to the Committee on Standards in Public Life

01/07/2008

Oliver Heald MP, Sir Derek Morris MA Dphil and Dame Denise Platt DBE have been appointed to the Committee on Standards in Public Life.  All three appointments, announced by the Prime Minister today, are for a period of three years.  Those of Oliver Heald and Sir Derek are effective from 1 March 2008, while Dame Denise's appointment is effective from 1 July 2008.

Oliver Heald MP succeeds the Rt Hon Baroness Shephard of Northwold JP DL as the Conservative Party nominee on the Committee (each of the three main political parties may nominate one person to serve on the Committee).  Sir Derek Morris and Dame Denise Platt replace Rita Donaghy and Professor Dame Hazel Genn DBE, who stood down from the Committee at the end of 2007.

Welcoming the appointments, Committee Chair Sir Christopher Kelly said:  “I am delighted to have Oliver Heald MP, Sir Derek Morris and Dame Denise Platt as members, and look forward to the valuable contribution to the Committee which I know they will make. I would also like to place on record my appreciation of Baroness Shephard, Rita Donaghy and Dame Hazel Genn for their work, commitment and contribution to the Committee.”

Brief details of the new appointees can be found in the Biographies section.
