Sir Christopher Kelly responds to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority scheme on MPs' expenses
Commenting on the scheme, Sir Christopher Kelly said:
"We are pleased that the great majority of our recommendations have been adopted in the IPSA scheme published today.
The main difference is the continued employment of family members. We heard the same arguments and reached the conclusion that ending this practice was necessary to ensure the system was free from the suspicion of abuse. We still take the same view. But IPSA was given the responsibility for taking decisions about this and will presumably keep it and other aspects of the new scheme under review. The important thing now is that the new Parliament can make a fresh start with a new expenses scheme.
We will have to see how the continued employment of family members works in practice."
